World’s Top Ten Amusement Parks

Part 2

Disney took an early lead in building amusement and theme parks and to be fair, they had the vision. They had a whole lot of the kids hooked on Mickey and Donald already in their bag.

Typhoon Lagoon & Blizzard Beach, Florida

Both are Disney Water Parks in Orlando, Florida. People who go to Typhoon Lagoon, usually don’t visit Blizzard Beach and vice versa. This is mainly due to time constraints or lack of funds. Both are great and your kids will love either one.

Ocean Park, Hong Kong

The name tells you this is a water themed park without the Disney label. Though Hong Kong has a Disney Park, Ocean Park has kept Disney it at bay (joke) by investing heavily. They now have a sprawling tropical rainforest with a jungle ride through rapids and an aviary and a zoo.

 Songcheng Park, Hangzhou, China

If you find yourself in eastern China with bawling kids and time on your hands, this is the place to visit or maybe not. The main attraction is a show called Everlasting Love performed by a cast of 400 to 500 people.

Lotte World, Seoul, South Korea

This is a hugely successful park and is accused of borrowing heavily from Disney. Lotte World has the largest indoor and outdoor park in the world. The park has some impressive rides, one such is called the, another is a light, fire and water projection.

Universal Studios, Sentosa Island, Singapore

Opened in 2010 but the birthing pangs were severe and suffered the first year. 14 months later it ironed out the kinks and is doing great now. If ever in Singapore visit it for Transformers The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle. This ride is similar to the one at Florida’s Island Adventure.

Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen, Denmark

Billed as the second oldest amusement park in the world (it opened in 1843) it was originally called the Tivoli and Vauxhall. Rides, fireworks and live entertainment were always on offer from the beginning. In 1943, much of it was destroyed by the Nazis. The park still retains some historic structures.

So if Tivoli Gardens is the second oldest, don’t you want to know which is the oldest?

Ok, the winner for being the oldest is:-

Bakken, Copenhagen, Denmark

Established in 1583, they have a wooden roller coaster built as recently as 1932. And please don’t assume that their rides are as exciting as sitting in granddad’s lap. They have over 150 rides.

No matter where you plan to amuse yourself this year, carry an EbixCash World Money Multi-currency forex card apart from a small amount of the local currency. Foreign exchange can now be booked at the click of a button at great prices and delivered to your home. It might also be a good idea to pick up travel insurance while booking your ticket.
