Since just one article can never do justice to all the extraordinary bars & pubs the world over, we will cover just London and maybe return to do other cities later. So in no particular order the first on the list is:-
The Bootlegger; 25-26 Lime Street, London, EC3M 7HR
This is a retro themed bar harking back to 1920’s. The Bootlegger features live jazz bands and retro music. They have a dance floor, an event space, cocktail, lounge and party bars. Great place to throw a private party or just while away the time dancing with your partner.
WM Barker & Co;202 Bishopsgate, London, EC2M 4NR
Located underground beneath Bishop’s Gate, WMB & Co. feels like a snug, secret den with its exposed walls, low lighting and dark wood tables. The menu is great and so are the cocktails. The prices reasonable and the place can be booked to host private events and parties too.
The Piano Works: 113-117 Farringdon Road, London, EC1R 3BX
Situated in a Victorian listed basement, The Piano Works revives the great loud dance bars where a 6 piece band will play your song requests. Great food, cocktail and restaurant bar and affordable to boot. One of the hidden gems London has on offer.
Tropicana Beach Club: New London Theatre Parker Street, London, WC2B 5PW
A touristy place in a popular tourist spot of Covent Gardens, the Tropicana has gone all out to take you to the tropics. The place has hundreds of birds decorating the place (500 at one count) and a dance floor that’s designed as a lagoon; how cool is that?
With a tropical Grill Menu and 50 cocktails, many with tropical fruits, you’ll be weeping in your drink, thinking of India.
Cabana Brixton: 201-207 Ferndale Road, London, SW9 8BQ
Situated in Brixton with its huge West Indian population, the pub takes inspiration from the Brazilian churrascarias and serves freshly grilled Malagueta Chicken and Brazillian feijoada hot pot. Enjoy all this while sipping a blended Batidas or a frozen cocktail Cabana Colada or many more of Cabana Brixtons original cocktail creations.

BYOC Camden: 11-13 Camden High Street, London, NW1 7JE
Now here’s a twist and a shout. You bring your favorite bottle of sprits and hand it to the bartender but before that you have to hand over 30 quids. The bartender will conjure up as many cocktails as you can drink in a 2 hour period. Roulette and Blackjack tables add to the atmosphere. Available for private parties all through the week.
